BIOGRAPHY
I was elected Fianna Fáil Member of the European Parliament for Ireland South in 1994 and re-elected again in 1999, 2004 and 2009.
Born in 1964, I grew up in the town of Bandon in County Cork, one of six children. In 1993 while studying law at University College Cork I was appointed to Seanad Éireann, (Irish Senate), and became government spokesman on Justice, Equality and Law Reform.
President McAleese appointed me to her Council of State In 1997.
